Ramblings

I don't think I've gotten a decent night's sleep on a Sunday night in months. Last night was no different. It must be because of the beginning of the work week. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I hate my job. I guess it's just that I'm so busy these days (doing the job of two people) and my mental list of "things to do" each week starts scrolling through my head just about the time it hits the pillow Sunday night. Gah!

On another note, my 10 year high school reunion was fun! But man the dj sucked. They kept playing rap music and country music and were practically begging people to get out on the dance floor. They even played "I am a man of constant sorrow" from Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? How the hell are you supposed to dance to that?! I wanted them to play songs from the early 90s! The songs that shaped our high school experience! That would have been fun! Oh well, some people just don't see things as I do. Anyway, a bunch of us skipped out to a local bar and had a great time with good music (and cheaper drinks)!

Speaking of drinks, I just got in from a "just us girls" happy hour that ended up being an entire evening of drinks, dinner and laughing our asses off. What a great way to start the week!!

What? You want knitting? I gotch yer knittin' rightchere...

During lunch today I finally cast on for my Ruffles scarf (which I will call my High Energy Ruffles scarf since the yarn is from Jenny). I just love short rows. They are so fun to knit! I'll try and get pics soon. It isn't "ruffling" yet but hopefully a few more pattern repeats and it'll start.

Didn't finish my minisweater this weekend as I expected to. Too much going on. But I only have one more sleeve to do then I need to find a button!

Ok, better run. Geoff needs the computer. Geez. Men!

Mmmmmm... yarrrrrrrrn...

Yes this is one and only Vesper Sock Yarn from Knit Pixie! The colorway in front is called Meteor and the colorway in back is Maura. These are going to make some very cool socks.

I'm exhausted. Went for a "run" this evening. I say "run" because it's more of a run/walk. I'm trying to become a "runner." My husband's a runner. My dad's a runner. I have friends who are runners. I need to start exercising more so I'm going to give running a try. Last Thursday I couldn't run longer than 5 1/2 minutes (~1/2 mile) and today I was able to run 7 minutes 10 seconds (~3/4 mile). So I guess that's progress! The temps are beginning to drop a bit, as is the humidity, so that's helping a bunch. Maybe I'll be able to run a 5k soon (or at least before I die).

I have my 10-year high school reunion this weekend. I think the only reason people go to these things is to see who got fat, who's losing their hair, etc etc. And yeah, that's kinda why I'm going, too. I'm only human. Will let you know how it goes.

This weekend also marks the one year anniversary of when my husband and I got engaged. He popped the question in front of about 60 of our closest friends at a backyard party we were hosting. And it was all caught on tape so we'll be able to remember it forever and show it to the offspring. Sounds like we'll be celebrating with a pish posh dinner at a local Italian restaurant. Happy Engagement Anniversary, Honey! I love you!

And I hope to finish my minisweater this weekend! I haven't gotten much knitting done the past couple of nights but I hope that will change this weekend. Of course, the slow progress can also be blamed on my "knitting perfectionism." I had made good progress with the increases at the bottom but didn't like the way one side of the increases looked. So I ripped it out and started the increase section again. I know that no one would have ever noticed the difference if I just kept on but *I* would have noticed and I would see it EVERY time I wore the sweater. Oy vey.

So it should be a good weekend! I'm glad it's all starting tomorrow! Wheeeeeeee!

A Package!

What a great surprise on a rainy Monday afternoon! A package! For me! From High Energy Jenny! She gifted me with this yummy goodness...

Please excuse the dark pic. Like I said, it was raining. Isn't it lovely? I love the color! I'm thinking of making a shorter version of this with it...

It's the Ruffles scarf from Scarf Style! I hope to cast on by this weekend!

THANKS, JENNY!

Happy Birthday!

So the Big Birthday Bash was a big success! We celebrated the birthdays like pros. It was one of the hottest days of the year but we had the lake for relief.

Here are some pics of the birthday boy...

Before...

And After...

Maddie loved her sweater but I wasn't able to get a pick of her wearing it (it was tough keeping her out of the lake long enough for presents and dinner). I do have a pic of her opening it though so that will have to do for now...

Geoff and I put up new bamboo roman shades in the living room and kitchen this afternoon. They look great and it's nice to have actually accomplished something productive. I get so run down during the week that all I want to do on the weekends is relax and knit. But I've come to realize that I can't do that EVERY weekend. Bah! I hope that once we get things in order the way we want, there will be more weekends filled with knitting and less filled with home improvement.

Well, my sitting time is over. Must get dinner started. Where did my weekend go?

TGIF!

Oh what a week... I thought that Friday would never come!

This should be a fun (and HOT) weekend. When will fall arrive?! I've found that I am not very easy to please season-wise. What I mean is that during the summer I long for the winter and during the winter I long for the summer. I think the only times I'm TRULY happy with the seasons is during spring and fall (and here in SC those last a total of about 3 weeks). So during these "dog days" of summer I crank up the AC, grab a cold beer (or diet rite) and knit!

I'm working on my minisweater (sans the poofy sleeves and edging). I need to find a cool button for it.

I'm knitting it with this yummy GGH Samoa. It's a dream to knit with!

Happy Friday! Geoff and I are off to nosh with some friends. There's a glass of wine with my name on it...

Bubbles... finished!

I'll be giving it to my niece on Saturday at the big birthday party! I hope to get some pics of the birthday girl wearing it this weekend.

I started it back in June but quickly put it down to work on other projects. Picked it back up about a week ago when we got word of the birthday party this weekend (3 weeks before her actual birthday because she wanted to share her party with her little bro's 1st birthday). I of course thought I had more time but no worries! It's finished now!

The details:
Pattern: Bubbles from KnitNet (April 2005)
Started: June 1, 2005
Finished: August 17, 2005
Yarn: Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Bulky in Amethyst and The Collection SRK Pom in 06LS Blue Multi
Needles: US 10 and US 11
Size: Medium

So now I have all of this left over...

Maybe I'll make her a matching purse sometime! Not any time soon though. I wanna finish my minisweater/boobholder soon!

Thank God tomorrow's Friday! It's been a looooooong week. My computer got fried by THE WORM. Bad news... I've had no computer at work all week. Good news... today we set up my brand spankin' new PC. And tomorrow my new computer and I will begin moving to a new office to start our new life together. I think we'll be very happy...

I'm a Weener!

I won some yarny goodness from the one and only High Energy Jenny! She had a fun contest: guess where she and her husband went to college based on two yarn colors and some fun clues. One of the clues was that it "has the highest number of freshman National Merit Scholars per capita of any public university." That's the clue I used to find the answer (University of Oklahoma)! I'm a librarian! I thrive on nerdy clues like that!

So I've got two balls of Dale Svale coming to me! Wahoo! Thanks, Jenny! This was a great little surprise at the end of a crap day...

I was out sick yesterday and get to work this morning and I can't get onto my computer. Well, it turns out my computer (along with two others in the library) got a freakin' worm on it. So I felt like an orphan all day because the IT geek guy spent the ENTIRE day in my office. I mean ALL DAY! And this guy looks EXACTLY like Dilbert. The resemblance is rather spooky (right down to the thick glasses). I wish I could have taken a picture but that would have seemed a bit... odd. Anyway, he's one of those guys who kinda lacks social skills so I was literally avoiding my office the entire day. So yeah, I didn't accomplish very much at work.

On an unrelated note, the husband and I are watching two new shows on FX right now: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Starved. They are friggin' hilarious!

Sick

Home sick from work today. Ugh. I didn't sleep at all last night. So. Frustrating. I kept looking at the clock thinking "If I go to sleep NOW, I'll get ___ hours of sleep." I did get a couple hours of sleep after Geoff left for work. The worst thing about staying home sick (besides feeling like crap) is daytime TV. It SUCKS! Thank God for knitting.

Speaking of which, I blocked my niece's sweater (never found my blocking pins, had to go buy new ones). Here's a pic of the pieces post blocking...

And here's a closeup of the body with the edging...

I'll probably start seaming it up this afternoon! I hope it fits her!

Another thing I'm going to do this afternoon is buy this pattern...

It's by one of my favorite knitwear designers, Jenna Adorno. She's the designer behind Knitty.com's Tempting and Blaze. She is selling the above pattern for $5 on her website and for every pattern sold, Jenna is donating $6 to Susan Love's Breast Cancer Research Foundation. That's 120% of your purchase price going to a GREAT cause. You can buy the pattern and read about how breast cancer has affected Jenna's life by visiting her website.

Better run... there is seaming in my future...

Bubbles

Here's a pic of the sweater I'm making for my niece. It's called Bubbles and it's from the April 2005 edition of KnitNet.

bubbles.jpg

I'm making it in a deep purple. I can't seem to take a decent picture of it though. I'm about to finish the last sleeve and then it's on to the blocking board. Maybe then I'll be able to get a good shot of it.

Rosedale!

Rosedale

As you can see, she's made it to the blocking board but has not been "stuck" yet because I can't find my damn blocking pins! I need to find them SOON though because my niece's sweater has a date with the blocking board within the week.

I loved the way the front intarsia square turned out. I planned it so that it included my favorite color transition (the yellow to the orange to the brown).

I used Noro Kureyon in colorway #88 and everyone who's seen it says it looks great with my red hair. It took me a little over a month to knit.

Rosedale

A close up of the front with the intarsia square. The colors in the pics are accurate. Love it!

The details:
Pattern: Rosedale from Knitty
Started: June 8,2005
Finished: July 12, 2005
Yarn: Noro Kureyon #88
Needles: US 8
Size: Small

Let's get this party started...

Ok, so I started this whole blog thing several months ago before my wedding and quickly realized that planning a wedding leaves little time for blogging. So things have calmed down a bit and now that I am settling into married life I thought I'd give it another go.

Since this is a knitting blog, let's get to it. I'll post pics soon I promise...

Recently finished:
Rosedale from knitty.com - still need to block it and add a zipper
Cable Eight top from Interweave Knits Spring 2005 - still needs blocking and the ends woven in (ugh...)

On the needles now:
Bubbles from the April 2005 edition of KnitNet for my niece's birthday
Minisweater (aka boobholder) from glampyre knits

Pictures and more info to come...

And stay tuned as I start tweeking the site to get it juuuuuust right...
